While the paint for the wooden chassis was drying, I had assembled the machine and fired it up to make sure everything is still working (these parts have been sitting in bags for a long time): |
That is the Intel D850EMD2 that used to be in the server. 2.53G P4 and 512M of Kingston RDRAM. The video card is the old GeForce3. For now, I am going to use the onboard audio. It all seemed OK so first off is to mount the motherboard:
Wow - a perfect match. You'd almost think it was built to match
Since the cards are "loose" and cannot be installed as normal, I secured them to the MDF tray with panhead wood screws.
It was no big deal for the lightweight NIC but this only works for the AGP due to the locking slot:
To secure the system drive, I modified a couple of bay adapters:
Now the drive could be mounted against a flat surface:
Same for the power supply - I cracked it open and drilled a couple mounting holes:
While the cover is off, I sank a couple nut rivets into it to help with wire management:
Here is the PSU and drive mounted:
Now all that remains is a final test fit and then to secure it into place and what happens........?
The damned thing is too tall! It seems I didn't take the height of the HSF into consideration earlier.
